Since 1973 the University Community has served the local community, expanding and growing as needs and technology change. It reflects a diverse community of ages and nationalities, being an integral part of the greater university system in the city. It is supported by a 34 branch library system and the downtown main library with its indepth collection and reference capabilities. Our online catalog eDesk at San Diego Public Library offers invaluable links to various databases (business, literature, newspapers, magazines, tax forms, etc.) Two storytimes are offered on a regular basis: Toddlers and Preschoolers Thursdays at 11 a.m. and Family Storytime Saturdays at 11 a.m. Preschool groups are requested to contact the Youth Services Librarian to arrange for special storytime visits. Other youth programs are offered throughout the year. Check for flyers in the Library. The summer reading program includes a number of excellent children's programs. The fourth Friday of each month, the library is the setting for the ongoing Book Club. All are welcome; details are on the library bulletin board. The Friends of the UC Library is a non-profit corporation; all contributions are tax deductible. The Friends operate the ongoing and semi-annual booksale. Monies raised from the booksale are matched by the City of San Diego. The Friends' financial support of the branch is invaluable, for both programs and materials. Donations and volunteers always are appreciated. Their monthly meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome. Many volunteers work at the branch each day, assisting the staff in processing, shelving, phoning, etc. We greatly appreciate their endless dedication and commitment.
